WCRF Announces Two New Directors


The Washington County Riverboat Foundation (WCRF) is pleased to announce the addition of two new board members elected at the May 15th Board meeting.

They are Brenda Herington and Stephanie Schlabaugh both of Kalona.  Tracy Ousey, Chair of the Nomination Committee, stated “It was a difficult decision for the board to make.  We had several good candidates. We are pleased to welcome Brenda and Stephanie to our board. We are confident that they will be a valuable addition to our group. Both of these individuals bring a wide array of talent and perspectives that will help us serve our communities.”  The two new members terms will end January 2016.

WCRF Now Taking Applications for 2013 Mini Grants

Washington County Riverboat Foundation 2013 Mini Grant Applications are now available. Mini Grants  applications are limited to a maximum of $2,000.  WCRF will give out up to $100,000 in Mini Grants this grant cycle. Mini Grants are catered to small non-profit organizations who would like to do a special project. WCRF Announces Spring 2013 Grant Winners

Washington County Riverboat Foundation (WCRF) is pleased to announce the winners of our Spring 2013 Grants.  At a reception held at the Riverside Casino and Golf Resort 31 winners were announced with awards totaling $3,399,376. To view a list of the winners click here.

Applications Are Now Being Taken for Director Positions


Washington County Riverboat Foundation (WCRF) is now taking applications to fill two directors positions. The directors terms will expire January 1, 2016.  

 The board will accept applications from anyone who lives or works in Washington County.  However, WCRF’s main emphasis on one director opening will be the Kalona city area while the other will be a rural Kalona resident.   WCRF would also note that directors do not represent the areas where they live or work but represent the entire Washington County area.

Eligible persons should also be aware that they will be required to undergo an extensive background check by the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation and be required to attend meetings at different locations around the county.

WCRF Receives A Record Number of Applications

Washington County Riverboat Foundation (WCRF) received a record number of applications for the Spring 2013 grant period.  Applications were due March 14th.  There were a record 94 applications asking for $6,820,505.  The applications will now be reviewed by the entire board then turned over to the Grant Review Committee for their recommendations.  To view the applicants click here.

Spring 2013 Grant Applications are Due March 14, 2013

Grant Applications are due in our office by 5:00pm on March 14, 2013 . Some things that it will be helpful to remember in the process are:
  1. Submit your application as early as possible. By doing this we have a chance to look over your application for any errors or missing documentation. Any Applications that are received before March 1 will be reviewed for errors. Applications with errors received after March 1 may not be accepted.
  2. Only attached tax documents, Certificate of Standing, and IRS Non-profit determination letter to the original not the copies
  3. If you are submitting a resolution from a governing body (schools, government) only attach it to the original.
  4. Staple all applications. No paper clips, etc.
  5. Remember the application should be in its original form. (No colored paper, plastic covers, folders, or cover sheets. Do not reformat this application form.
  6. Remember its 15 copies and 1 original for a total of 16 applications
  7. When submitting an electronic copy do it in word format.

WCRF Announces Applications for Spring 2013 Are Now Available


The Washington County Riverboat Foundation (WCRF) is pleased to announce that the applications for the Spring 2013 Grants are now available. The WCRF would advise all applicants to review the guidelines before filing their application as some procedures have changed. The deadline for this period's application is 5:00pm on March 14, 2013.
Applications that are received before March 1 will be reviewed for any errors. Applications with errors received after March 1 may not be accepted.
